MARIJUANA

April 20 or 4/20, is known as "Weed Day". So how does the number 420 come to represent smoking pot?

First, let's get the myths and rumours out of the way:
Some claims, the number is drawn from the California criminal codes used to punish the use or distribution of marijuana. Well, the laws say something else. This one is a nod toBob Dalyn's song, "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" and its lyrics. "Everybody must get stoned". Multiply 12 by 35 and you get 420. Woah; Amazing!
But the truth is far beyond the myths. 4204:20, or 4/20  is cannabis culture slang for marijuana consumption, especially smoking around the time 4:20 pm, and also refers to cannabis oriented celebrations that take place annually on April 20. In 1971, five high school students in San Rafel, California, used the term "4:20" in connection with a plan to search for an abandoned cannabis crop, based on a treasure map made by the grower. Calling themselves the Waldos, because their typical hang-out spot "was a wall outside the school". Steven Hager of High Times was responsible for popularizing the story of the Waldos. After "Waldo" Reddix became a roadie for the Dead's bassist, Phil Lesh and called for 4:20 pm to be the socially accepted hour of the day to consume cannabis.
